COMPANY HISTORY
George Malouf and his wife, Kathy, founded Malouf Construction Corporation in 1987. After earning a degree in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University, George served as a civil and mechanical engineer for Bechtel Power, Gaithersburg, Maryland, as a civil engineer and superintendent for Becon Construction, Houston, Texas and as a project superintendent for Sundt Corp., Tucson, Arizona. During this experience, George had the opportunity to work in supervisory and management positions on very large and highly technical projects including nuclear and coal fired power plants and waste treatment facilities. The knowledge and technical abilities gained from working with some of the worlds largest and most capable construction companies has proven invaluable in creating and managing Malouf Construction.
In the companys infancy, they focused primarily on work in the commercial market, including office and municipal buildings and warehousing. By 1989, Malouf began to get involved in private industrial work such as food processing plants, cold storage facilities, steel mills, and a variety of manufacturing facilities. The company was then afforded the opportunity to negotiate work and entered the design-build market. As the company built capital and resources, they were able to attract more highly experienced construction professionals and their reputation continued to grow.
Malouf Construction continued broadening its capabilities by adding heavy and highway construction in 1991. These efforts focused on marine work, flood control projects, bridge construction, and site work for the commercial and industrial facilities the company was constructing. The timing was perfect. This diversification began at a point when the commercial construction market had really tightened. This expansion into heavy and highway work also necessitated the acquisition of a substantial fleet of heavy equipment in order to be competitive. Owning their own bulldozers, excavators, tire and track mounted cranes, compaction equipment and a fleet of heavy trucks allowed the company to not only be competitive in the heavy construction market, but provides other advantages as well. This equipment, and more specifically the experienced staff that provides for its operation, allows the company to control costs and scheduling better on all its projects. Malouf Constructions experience gained in the heavy construction market with systems like cofferdam construction and site de-watering have also proven beneficial to many of our industrial and commercial clients.
By 1996 the company had over 100 employees and was continuing to expand and diversify. Despite strong competition in the construction industry, Malouf continued a steady growth plan by selectively participating in projects that were suited to their technical abilities and experience. The company also believes that their ability to perform the majority of the work on its projects with their own field forces gives clients an added benefit. When subcontracting work is required, Malouf adds to the team by carefully delineating work to the most capable subcontractors in their selected fields; hiring only the best to get the job done right.
Today, Malouf Construction Corporation has over 150 employees and continues to grow. The heavy and highway division office is located in Greenwood, Mississippi and the commercial and industrial division is headquartered at the home office in Madison, Mississippi. While the company has two offices and is structured as two divisions, they continue to share expertise and seek to participate in projects that vertically integrate the company's strengths. Malouf has also segregated the estimating and project management responsibilities to better utilize the abilities of each individual and allow them to concentrate on their specific areas of responsibility.
Our people make the difference.
Their abilities and confidence coupled with
their attitude toward clients, and fair dealings with
subcontractors and vendors, are what sets us apart.
